Reflection Journal (LTM) : Language Teaching Skill

In this meeting we did microteaching by showing each type of teaching language skills. The purpose of this activity is to understand what kind of teaching language skills and how it can help our students in addressing problems in the real life.
Our group showed about teaching language skills in writing. We divided the class into several groups. For elicitation we asked students to write the story straight. After that, each group read their writing in front of the class. In explanation part, we explained about narrative text. Then in the exercise we asked students to correct the narrative text’s punctuation, capitalization and ketch and so on. Unfortunately in reflection part, our group was lack of feedback because we only asked students to draw their emotions based on their feeling at the time of learning. Of course in the next opportunity we will fix this weakness, for example by asking the students to give oral or written reflection. We also should give more attention in time management when we taught our students.
Teaching language skills – listening group showed how teaching and learning listening skills process in the classroom. They used quite interesting way when performed it in front of the class. They elicited students' skills in early learning by giving them instruction. They gave instructions to students to draw something on a piece paper based on the instruction that is given. This activity was appropriate to check students’ skill whether they are good or not by looking the result of they drawing. Then, after students finished their drawing, they explained the purpose and objectives of the activities that they did before. I thought the whole activity that is done by them (listening group) has been quite effective, but there are also little things that still need attention. For example, when they asked students to complete the lyrics of the song that hiatus, they should note the level of difficulty based on students' skills. They do not omit too many words in the lyrics, because not all students have good skills in listening.
Ok here I make a sample of video, maybe it will be better use this video to improve students' listening skill by hearing only its sounds. then we asked them to fill in the blank ^_^

Further teaching language skills - reading group showed how teaching and learning skills of reading process in class with involved students’ multiple intelligent. They divided the class into several small groups based on their individual learning styles. After that each group was asked to read the pieces of paper that contains multiple intelligent that they have. Each group was asked to discuss and understand the content of reading listed in the piece of paper. Then they did a jigsaw with another group and read the results of discussions based on each group. I think the way is quite effective, but it will become difficult if we teach in the class with the large number of student. Not only that, the division of students into several groups looks not to balance, so the activity would be ineffective when students did jigsaw activity.
The last group is teaching language skills – speaking group. They explain about descriptive text to their students. They divided the students into several group, then each group was asked to describe something then guessed by other groups. The also did update status activity which quite interesting, because students can get funny learning in speaking. At the end of their lesson they asked students to make a reflection orally. Overall those activities that they have done were good, I thought.
The whole performances in our microteaching section were good actually. But there were some aspects that should be considered. We still need to learn how to manage the class and also the time in the class when we are teaching. Because by managing the class well, we can manage the time well. Finally teaching and learning process in the classroom will be effective and controlled. Both of class and time management are the key for success teacher in teaching I think. We also should know how to apply our lesson plan that we have created in the class well. Then, we should remember that reflection is the important part that we’re needed to evaluate our activity in the classroom when we teach our student. As the English teacher we also have to pronounce English well, especially when we are giving instruction to our students.
I underline something in our microteaching in this meeting. As the teacher we should create meaningful and effective teaching-learning. It means students not only know but also understand about the lesson. They not only know theoretically but also can practice and apply it in the real life. Of course to create a meaningful and effective teaching and learning is not easy as easy as we think. As the teacher we should have a good preparation, such as arrange the lesson plan before the class activity, know about students’ ability, and also class situation.  It is not easy, but we can work on it. In our performance I also realize that we can enclose all the language teaching skills in every teaching and learning process in the classroom. I can see that every group did it when we performed microteaching. We hope after learn the whole of teaching language skills, we will be a good teacher in the future by applying what we have leaned in this meeting well. Hopefully.

Reflection Journal (EE) : Six Thinking Hats by Dr. Edward de Bono

Let's we watch this video first !!!

Do you get the point from this video?
Well, let me explain more about six thinking hats by Edward de Bono.

Six thinking hat describe the ways of our thingking actually. Sometimes we didn' realize what kinds of thinking that we have whether it is a 'reflective', 'intuitive', 'constructive', 'creative', 'cautious' or 'informative' thinking. Okay, before we continue this topic about, let see the pictures bellow ^__^

Use your hat to think about that condition. If necessary, you can also use the whole six thinking hats to get different oppinion with different perspective of thinking. And then what do you think ?

After using the six thinking hats to think about the condition in that picture above. Now you have understood which one is better to use in our thinking right? If you still don't understand, here i'll give you the explanation about each hats to make it clear. Just read it and decide which one better.

The Red Hat :
What do you feel?
What are your gut reactions?
What's your intuition?
Do not think too long or too heavy.

The White Hat :
Information seekers.
What are the facts?
What information is available?
Is this information relevant?
Neutral in thought.

The Yellow Hat :
The sunshine hat.
Positive and constructive.
Effectiveness and tried to get the job done
What are the benefits?

The Black Hat :
The Caution hat.
Thinking about the error.
Are the risks?
Identify the problem.
The Green Hat :
Creative.
Green symbolizes growth and development.
Looking for ideas and new solutions.
Lateral thinking.
The Blue Hat :
The control hat,
Organising think.
Focus and elicit the use of another hat .
Monitor and reflect the thinking process.
Blue is for planning.

So which one is yours ? And Which one is better?

Okay,,, I think we can use the whole of Six Thinking Hats for thinking based on context. When we want to get the information, we can use the white one or when we want to think about the negative impact, we can use the black one. But....Try to use the blue one to contol our all hats okay?
